The Hollywood & GOP Breakups: Time to get "Reunited"

Welp folks, I know it's been a while since my last post. My husband has had a couple of extra nights off from work lately and well, queue the "reunited 'cause it feels so good" music. Anyhow, it's been a worthy distraction from this nightmare we called an election a few days back. I'm trying not to think about the reality, and trying to ignore the liberal media, who is now speculating that "Daddy" has brought his friends in to save GW's day, as though he really needed that kind of salvation....some idiots are even speculating that somehow neoconservatism has fallen out of favor with mainstream America. Improbable, more like impossible. Also, a few other noteworthies while I was out:
  • No more John L after this season - shocking!
  • Multiple major hollywood breakups - Reese and Ryan, Daly and his stripper wife who is in jail, Brittney & K-Fed; That means R Phil is back on the market! Thank God!

Anyhow, now I'm consumed enough with all of the recent Democratic antics around a "phased withdrawal" from Iraq that I have nearly forgotten about this back fat I have accumulated, which is now starting to hang over my bra strap. I'm thinking about going to Myrtle Beach to clear my head. Did you know that seagulls like Cheese-Itz?

White House Program on School Violence: A Domestic Program to sink your teeth into

Finally, a refreshing and unifying distraction from the partisan politics and business as usual in Washington. In a great move, the White House has recently announced a meaty School Violence program that America can sink it's teeth into. A recent rash of school shootings prompted the White House to begin a dialogue on school violence and prevention. For one view, go here:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/EDUCATION/10/10/school.safety.ap/index.html?section=cnn_us

Of course, as the CNN article mentions, Dems poo pooed the idea, but most likely it was because they were not poised to provide a response.

I was so ecstatic about this fresh thinking on school violence. This is where the White House and the GOP are at its best. It's kind of like when I met my husband for the first time. He walked in my restaurant where I was a shift supervisor and I knew he was THE ONE. I feel exactly the same way about this program. Except for the part where I had to clean the fryers. That was so long ago.

Getting Coffee: It has its risks

I once had a professor at my technical school ask me to go get some coffee for a discussion
"outside of the classroom." It made me feel funny. Fortunately, I didn't go because that professor ultimately won the lottery and when he wasn't buying lavish gifts for people, he was at his winter home in South Beach.

Paris & Nicole: A commentary on world domination

So if you're like me, with no life outside of my bi-weekly visits to California Nails and HyTech Weight Loss, you probably spend a fair amount of time on the Internet reading about things like world hunger, nuclear proliferation and stuff like that.

The most important thing I saw in the news today was that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richey were supposedly seen together at an LA steakhouse where there was conjecture they may be friends again. I like soooo hope they are. Also, I read that scientists encourage us to eat bugs.

There was also some other thing about someone named Kim being ill or something. But I don't really like reading about sick people.

GOP: Alarmed by Foley situation for wrong reasons

Of course, hindsight is 20-20... we have a crystal clear picture in the aggregate now about Foley's behavior than we did as things occurred incrementally over the last few years - but, I think the GOP should be taking a long hard look at the choices that were made when certain questionable behaviors surfaced. On the one hand, folks are outraged because of the implications of this scandal on the party, and rightly so. But, this in and of itself, is a bit short-sighted. If there was an incling of concern about Foley's character at any point, we've got to wonder why we didn't find a way to get him out the door sooner. As an organisation, we want the right people making the right leadership decisions and it would appear that Foley was never totally in a position to do that. That's a much greater concern for the GOP - it isn't weeding out the weak.

It's kind of like the time I was upset that my high school boyfriend dumped me because I wouldn't go all the way with him. I was really crushed, but I took some solace in my Huey Lewis and The News album and by watching Ghostbusters. It's OK because I think he's still driving the same brown car and working as a shift manager at Barry's Barbells.

Iraqi Police Reports: More fodder for the Left

Did anyone catch the recent article on CNN.com about the Iraqi police force? It would seem there have been over 12,000 casualties (4,000 of them deaths) in the last two years. Tree hugging liberals would say that this is a sign that there isn't a viable plan for securing Iraq. On the contrary, this is an even greater indicator that we should stay the course in Iraq and ensure Democracy is fully installed.

For more reading on the casualties report, check out this link here:

Anyhow, now it's back to secretly dreaming about Big Ben Rothlisberger. He's the most charming QB in football next to Brett Favre. Of course it's hard to focus on Ben over the sound of my husband belching to show tunes.

The Media and the GOP: In October...

...the media began going for the GOP jugular. I was reading Sunday that both Time and Newsweek are, in their own respective ways, proclaiming the end of the Republican era in Washington. Time quite directly muses, "Is the Republican Revolution Over," and Newsweek proclaims that an explicit e-mail message delivered by Congressman Mark Foley to a former House page could "tumble GOP." Even MSNBC.com today was questioning whether the evangelical base had had it with the dysfunctional antics of the GOP. I couldn't help but wonder if this isn't just another set of examples of the media advancing their widely recognized liberal agenda -- trying to give the nation some prophetic words now which will help the country to articulate something the media wishes would happen. On balance, the GOP does seem to be on a rather unpleasant trajectory at the moment, but in no way is the GOP out of the game. The GOP is solidly entrenched in a set of conservative ideologies that won't be taken down by the likes of small time scandal -- but I do think the media should stay out of the business of trying to influence outcomes and predict the future.

On another note, I hate the obligation of showering every day. My husband isn't here, he's at work at a store in town. I am sure I could trick him into thinking I showered - put a damp towel on the rod, spray a little water around the shower. My two kids are busy destroying what's left of the things I have been keeping for good. Nobody cares.

Also, that Papa Murphy's Take and Bake Pizza commercial I just heard really annoys me -- "You had me at fresh dough."

Michigan State vs Ohio State: I said it here first...

John L will defeat OSU next Saturday in Lansing - he will do it by slapping himself in the face repeatedly on the sidelines. Most people would hardly notice, except for the noise he makes when he cries.

Now it's back to listening to my Van Halen albums. Don't you agree Van Halen is the best band ever? I could talk about Van Halen for hours over chips and salsa and Franzia. Not the red, the blush. Eddie VH makes being a Michigan housewife survivable.
